Best Things to do in Abersoch North Wales

09 October 2024

If you are looking for things to do in Abersoch North Wales you are in luck because there are countless attractions and activities to do in the surrounding area. This is ultimately what makes Abersoch such a wonderful family holiday destination, as there is genuinely something to appeal to all ages and interests.

For the benefit of anyone looking to book a holiday to Abersoch, we thought we’d utilise our knowledge of the local area to put together an essential guide to the very best things to do in Abersoch, taking into account all members of the family. Without further ado, here is number one…

1. Enjoy a Traditional British Seaside Day Out

Abersoch is of course famous for being one of the most popular seaside holiday destinations in the area. While most of you will be aware of the village’s main beach, there is also a second beach to take into consideration in the form of Abersoch Harbour Beach.

This small area of sand is situated between the outer Abersoch harbour and the Warren Beach. Its size and off the beaten track nature make it a better beach destination for those who craze a little tranquillity away from the crowds.

However, the majority of you will no doubt prefer to head to the main Abersoch beach which is one of the most popular in North Wales. Its sheltered location makes it ideal for sunbathers and watersports enthusiasts, while its soft golden sands make it ideal for children who are looking to build a few sandcastles and simply have a good time. Essentially it is the perfect beach for a fun family day out at the seaside.

2. Adrenaline Fuelled Watersports

We’ve already briefly touched upon this in our previous suggestion, but Abersoch beach is an absolute mecca for water sports enthusiasts. Its sheltered nature and lack of dangerous currents ensure that it is a safe place to get up to speed with your chosen water sport activity before taking on more extreme challenges.

In many ways it feels as though the entire village is water sports obsessed, with there being countless water sports themed shops selling everything from essential equipment though to clothing from adventure focused brands such as Animal and Crew, who both have their own shops in the village.

As the name suggests, the Abersoch Watersports store sells all of the equipment you could ever possibly need if you are to take up surfing, paddleboarding or even wild swimming. The expert team at the Abersoch Watersports store can also provide SUP tuition so that you can learn to paddleboard under the watchful eye of ISA qualified instructors.

3. Go Shopping

Again, this activity overlaps with our previous suggestion slightly where we mentioned some of the shops that are on offer in Abersoch. Alongside clothing brands such as Crew and Animal, there are a number of other stores which are owned by well known national brands such as Fat Face, Jack Wills and the White Stuff.

However, if you are looking for a bit more of a unique shopping experience, then you’ll probably prefer to visit the many independent local shops in the village. Highlights of these include ladies clothing stores Boudica, Breeze and First Light Boutique. You can also become ingrained in the local culture when you buy swimwear and watersports clothing from the likes of Coastal Culture, O'Shea Abersoch and the Abersoch Surf Shop.

If you are looking for something fancy to add to the décor of your brand new Abersoch holiday home, then you should pay a visit to Wildwood Designs who have some truly unique household items for sale.

4. Take a Walk

If you are looking for things to do in Abersoch for adults, then why not consider a glorious coastal walk along the Llyn Coastal Path.

One possible route starts from the main Abersoch beach. From here you can wander through the high street and head onto the aforementioned Harbour beach. When there is a low tide you can then navigate your way around the rock and begin your return journey to the main Abersoch Beach whilst admiring the glorious coastal views that only Abersoch can provide.

Alternatively, if you would prefer something a little quieter and don’t mind taking a 10 minute drive outside of the village, then you may prefer the Cim Farm Circular Path. This starts from Pant Car Park on the other side of Bwlchtocyn and is mostly flat with the Wales Coastal Path making up at least 2/3rds of this circular walk. You can head down to Porth Ceiriad (Ceiriad Beach) and follow the route all the way around the headland and past the border of Cim Farm before starting your return trek to Pant Car Park.

Either of these routes are a great option for those who are enjoying a pet friendly holiday in Abersoch. Just remember to keep your pooch on a lead at all times, particularly when in more populated regions.

5. Play a Round of Golf

This final suggestion won’t appeal to everyone, but we know that one of the reasons many tourists opt to take a holiday near Abersoch is due to the quality of golf courses in the local region.

Unquestionably one of the best of these can be found at Abersoch Golf Club which is located close to the main Abersoch beach and therefore offers stunning coastal views as you play. This will no doubt soothe any frustrations you may encounter when taking on this challenging 18 hole traditional links and parkland course.

Abersoch Golf Club is also incredibly well equipped, having its own pro golf simulator where you can warm up before taking on the real thing.
